CHROMASHINE®

MATERIAL

CHROMASHINE®

Chromashine® is an aluminum pigment that uses no coloring and instead creates color from the effect of light interference. Light interference can be seen naturally in bubbles and in the feathers of peacocks, but Chromashine® creates the effect using Toyo Aluminium’s special technology. Aluminum is used to create a world of beautiful colors in paints, printing inks, and more.

Analysis of interference color aluminum pigment "CHROMASHINE®"

CHROMASHINE® is an aluminum powder used in automotive paint. The powder itself has no color but instead reflects changing colors under light. On the other hand, the metallic quality of the material can make it difficult to determine what color it is at any given moment. A study was undertaken to “dissect” the material and discover new ways to use it. The result was wrapping/folding paper that reflects different colors with subtler, more smoother transitions.
